Running For Life 10K & 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk
June 15, 2013 (Saturday)
Father's Day Weekend
Race Location:
Off of Highway 264 - North at mile post 434.
7 miles west of Burnside Jct.
(8 miles East of Steamboat Store).
The race begins in a valley of 2 miles flat course, and then climbs into 2 miles of trail plateaus (9 steps) to the top of a ridge which sets the stage for a majestic view to the North of Fish Point, Fluted Rock, Round Rock, and even in the distance - Lukachukai Mountains. Thus progressing into a steep drop, one last hill climb to Standing Rock, and then a 2 mile stretch of down hill to the finish.
The 10k has also been described by runners, as a "Healing Run" - what one thinks will be a simple run turns into a journey. The thinking you had at the start changes over the course of the run - life is good, life is precious.

A Runner's Prayer
Lord, please be there with me
each time I go to run,
And help me always finish
the things I have begun.
Running and life's goals
seem to go hand in hand.
Smoothing out one's troubles
as the sea smooths the sand.
With your true guidance, Lord
and unconditional love,
There is no trouble before me
that I cannot rise above.
With pounding feet
and a strong beating heart,
I thank you Lord for this healing art.
